Transgender

Transgender is an umbrella term used to desribe people who cannot or choose not to conform to societal gender norms associated with their physical sex. Such individuals have gender identities, expressions or behaviours not traditionally associated with their birth sex.

Transgender people live their lives to varying degrees of their chosen gender and may self identify as female, male, trans-women, trans-men, non-operative transsexual, pre-op transsexual, transsexual or transgender.

Transphobia

Transphobia is a fear and dislike of transgender people. Like biphobia, transphobia is present in the lesbian and gay community, just as it is in the straight community.

Both transwomen and transmen can feel a sense of belonging with the lesbian/bisexual community.
